As part of the European Citizen–Led Renovation programme, which supports the emergence of dozens of energy communities across Europe, AQUA! is supporting six French projects to reactivate old water mills.
This is an opportunity to meet (even virtually) with existing energy communities that are already producing hydroelectricity. One such example is the Grand Moulin de Gavray, which has regained some of its former use in recent years thanks to the tireless efforts of a citizen collective working in partnership with organisations such as SCIC des 7 vents, the regional network Energie Partagée ECLORE, Enercoop, and others.
A few years ago, the Interreg Europe programme also highlighted this good practice as part of the APPROVE project, as shown in this video.
This exchange led to the drafting of a feedback sheet that will be beneficial to CLR communities, but we hope to many others in the future!
